Mike Gravel: Best Candidate on Energy, Environment

11/13 (LWN) LessWaiting.com, which has always promoted efficiency and conservation in a variety of fields, endorses former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel as the best presidential candidate for addressing important energy-related issues and working to protect the environment. Gravel believes in and has always espoused the same political ideology, and is not indebted to campaign contributions from major corporations, which is of importance in regard to any issue.

Gravel's policies could do much to eliminate wasteful use of energy, decrease the impact of global warming, and delay the eventual depletion of world oil supplies. He calls for regulation and taxation measures aimed at reducing emissions, while expanding efforts to stop deforestation. He has always been opposed to nuclear testing and power generation, due to the danger posed by radioactive waste and other environmental effects caused by them. He is in favor of quickly withdrawing from Iraq and opposes war with other nations; war and military occupations are among the worst wastes of energy resources and do much to harm the environment. He has called for allowing the American people to vote on free trade agreements (many countries do allow their citizens to directly approve or reject such agreements) like NAFTA, which would likely lead to a reduction of international trade. Such trade consumes massive amounts of energy (cargo ships, airplanes) and creates more pollution in comparison to domestic production.

These positions, along with Gravel's long history of genuinely adhering to his principles, prove that former Senator Mike Gravel is the presidential candidate with the best chance of solving the serious energy and environmental issues we face. Such issues are directly linked to the survival of mankind, not to be overlooked in favor of irrelevant trivialities paraded by the mainstream media.
